Pau – Hautacam (156 km) Click for route map
The Tour went through Lourdes today which, in September 2008 celebrates 150 years as place of pilgrimage. Its high on the list of places in France which I would like to visit, as a tourist rather than a pilgrim, but I hadn’t realised that as well as the imposing Basilica of the Rosary this town on the River Gave de Pau also boasts a mediaeval castle.
The Tour continued into the high Pyrenees, through Bagnères-de-Bigorre once more, over the Col du Tourmalet, with magnificent panoramas, finishing at the mid-altitude resort of Hautacam. Breathtaking!
Sadly another positive drug test today brought the withdrawal of Moisès Dueñas Nevado (Barloworld).
