Vatan – Saint-Fargeau (192 km)
Another fairly flat ride today. The town of Sancerre looked like an interesting place, imposingly set on a hilltop surmounted by the Tour des Fiefs and surrounded by des Fiefs vineyards growing the famous wine from the Sancerre grape. At the finish of the race, there were good aerial pictures of Chateau Saint-Fargeau from the circling helicopter.
Another fantastic win for Briton Mark Cavendish, his fourth of this tour equalling his total of wins in 2008. A real bonus was that he has also won back the green jersey from Thor Hushovd who came in 5th today and is 7 points behind in the green jersey ranking. The next placed rider, 66 points behind Cavendish, is Jose Joaquin Rojas who, unless the unexpected happens, is now probably out of the running. It is good to see Briton Bradley Wiggins doing so well, currently in 5th place in the overall yellow jersey competition just 46seconds back from current leader, Italian Rinaldo Nocentini.
